1. We discussed on the telephone Sir Anthony Royale's question about reducing the British military commitment to Hong Kong. In the supplementaries I suggest you include some thing along the following lines:-
The force levels of the garrison in Hong Kong are being examined together with all our defence commitments in the Defence Review. As my rt hon Friend the Lord President of the Council announced on 31 October the Government will make a statement about the Review in the third week of November. and The White Paper will not now be published, owing
to the General Election, until early next year.
