DEFENCE REVIEW CONSULTATIONS - MON NATC COM TEMPS
J.
ï circulated late on Friday the 1OD paper for discussio. at the Sub-Committee on Wednesday mentioned in paragray. 1 of by minute of 26 September. You will have seen that this seeks clarifications only on certain of the non-NATO comitments Mentioned in OPD (74) 25 (or in the DSWP Report, which althou overtaken by CPD (74) 23, still has a certain validity and could be quoted against us). I have established with NOD that if we believe there are any other points over which clarification is needed for the purpose of writing consultative briefs, they expect us to raise them at the Sub-Committee.
As far as i am myself aware, the following commitments mig usefully be discussed: -
2.
*
(i) Brunci. OD are talking of withdrawing the battalion
as soon as possible and robably in 19/6. e cursul vos are against setting a date at this stage, and I am col the Cabinet Office that the Secretary of State made ed point at the UPD meeting on 10 September.
(ii) Gan, LOD are talking about withdrawing from Gan about
Larch 1976, though they recomise that the actual CALL of the withdrawal will depend ultimately on the ixing of our reductions in Sina;ore and Hong Kong and con- sequently on the abandonment of the RAF reinforcement capability for the Far Last. Is there any particulST formula about dates which SAD would like to secure in the negotiating briefs?
