PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE REFORT OF THE DEFENCE REVIEW STEERING COMMITTEE MISC (16) (74)7
1.
Paragraph 3
At the beginning of the first sentence, insert the words "as a working assumption".
2.
i)
Paragraph 5
In the second sentence replace the words "the minimum (or critical) level of our NATO contribution" with the words "the minimum (or critical) level of our contribution in the NATO area (omitting the Mediterranean)".
ii)
Insert the following as a penultimate sentence: "It does not of course take account of differing political considerations."
iii) In the final sentence insert the word "in" before
"non-NATO".

Faragraph ?
The parenthesis in the explanatory note on Annex B should refer to "commitments further afield" rather than
"non-NATO commitments".
4.
Paragraph 9
Add the following new sentence at the end of the present paragraph:
"However the Americans and Germans have already indicated that they do not accept our arguments about the relative defence burdens, and we can expect that several of our Allies will claim that we are at present doing no more
than our fair share."
