The land elementof the UK contribution consists
of 1 battalion group, 1 armoured reconnaissance squadron,
troops supplied to international headquarters and supporting
units. The air element comprises 12 offensive support
aircraft, 4 support helicopters and 1 RAF Regiment squadron
if required.
The UK Joint Airborne Task Force (UKJATFOR). The task
force consists of 1 parachute brigade with supporting
units and the UK-based Hercules air transport force of
53 aircraft.
23. The following movement resources are used to deploy the
reinforcement forces, except for the Amphibious Force which is
self-contained:

The Air Transport Force of 103 large transport aircraft
for troop and freight airlift (including the 53 Hercules),
and 12 Andover aircraft for tactical mobility.
Shipping. 6 military Logistic Landing Ships (ISLS) are
assigned to SACEUR Por use in the deployment of the UKMF
and AMF, and some of them might be used in support of the
Amphibious Force. Some civil shipping is planned to
augment military movement resources in the deployment of
the land element of the UKMF.
24. All these forces are based in the UK, and although available
to SACEUR in times of tension, they are not held solely for NATO
They are also available for UK national tasks overseas,
for UN tasks and for meeting the unforeseen, which includes suc..
tasks as the Northern Ireland commitment, anti-terrorist tasks in
the UK and aid to the civil power.
