an estimated additional 3,000 technical teachers who will be required to man secondary and pre-vocational schools as well as technical institutes by 1981. The Technical Division of the Education Depart- ment advised the following needs which yield the approximate total of the estimate:

(ii) Existing trained technical teachers in the Technical Institute and secondary schools in the public sector total some 180 which, through estimated wastage, will reduce to some 80 by 1981.
(iii) If 5 Technical Institute are in operation by 1981, there will be required some additional 400 technical teachers over and above the direct requirements of the secondary sector.
104. We consider that it will be more difficult to train technical teachers in the existing Colleges of Education than non-graduate teachers of general subjects. The proportions of technical subjects students to general subjects students would have to be varied to match the acquisition of appropriate facilities. We recommend therefore that the fourth College of Education should have its complex planned so as to afford training for both teachers of general subjects and teachers of technical subjects. We consider that they should be accommodated on the same campus, pursue separate courses where appropriate, and share common facilities with the consequent financial economy and educa- tional benefit from such sharing.
105. In view of the continuing need for close examination of the linked problems of the number of technical teachers likely to be re- quired within specific periods and the provision of suitable and adequate facilities for their training, we recommend the early establish- ment, under the auspices of the Board of Education, of a Technical Teacher Training Board. Such a Board in our view should consider not only the matters referred to at the beginning of this paragraph, but also the question of temporary accommodation for the training of technical teachers.
