Mr A L Wotton/
HONG KONG: APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION
Thank you for sending me the telegrams between the Governor and your Department about the retirement of Mr' Canning.
2. I am anxious to take steps to enlist the interest of any suitable education administrators in the UK who may be interested in applying for the vacant appointment. In view of the current re-organisations of Local Education Authorities in this country and probable redundancy as from 1 April next of some very able Directors and Chief Education Officers, I think that I should pursue thèse investigations with urgency and vigour. Unfortunately, however, I have no up to date statement of the current salary and conditions of appointment. I shall be grateful if you will please let me have this information as early as you can, or advice on how I can secure it elsewhere.
