12. BAGGAGE ALLOWANCES
(i) An officer who travels by air on the new leave terms is eligible for a baggage allowance for himself and for those members of his family who travel by air in respect of each journey to transport household and personal effects. This allowance is not intended to cover animals and motor vehicles or customs duty but household effects may be sent by sea within the overall cash allowance as necessary. The allowance is calculated on a weight basis at un- accompanied air baggage rates as follows :-

Single officers are eligible for half the rate for married officers: in both cases any customs duty payable is not accepted for purposes of the allowance.
(iii) On first appointment an officer may have personal effects transported
free from a warehouse in Hong Kong to his quarters by the Director of Government Supplies or by Departmental transport. He will however be required to repay any loading fees etc., incurred in withdrawing personal effects from a warehouse.
