(v) School Passages
(a) For children receiving full time education overseas an officer
may claim either
five passages per child for up to four children up to the age of 19 in each tour of 2 years; or
two passages per child for up to four children between 19 and 21 years of age in each tour of 2 years,
subject to an overall maximum of 20 passages per tour of 2 years.
(b) To allow for varying family circumstances, a children's passage
account is opened to which adjustments are made as school or other passages are taken, Such adjustments include reduction in the number of passages granted where, for example, a child goes to school abroad during the course of an officer's tour or where the child reaches the age of 19 during an officer's tour.
(c) General Rules for School Passages
School passages are subject to the following rules:
(1) a school passage must be taken at the cheapest fare available on a scheduled flight from the country where the child is being educated to enable the child to visit his parent(s) in Hong Kong. The visit must cover the major part of the Easter, Summer or Christmas holidays or the equivalent in the country where the child is being educated;
(2) to qualify for a school passage a child must be :-
(i) undergoing full-time education outside Hong Kong;
(ii) unmarried and under the age of 21 at the beginning of
the outward portion of the school passage;
(iii)an individual child will not be permitted to take more
than 5 school passages per tour of 30 months if the child is under 19 or more than 2 per tour between his/her 19th and 21st birthdays. School passage benefits cannot be carried forward from one tour to another;
(iv) as an alternative to children visiting their parents in Hong Kong, the cheapest available economy class passage may be granted to an officer's wife to enable her to visit his children during the tour provided that more than one child is eligible for school passages;
(v)
a child or the officer's wife, as the case may be is not eligible for the reimbursement of travel expenses or for any baggage allowance when taking a school passage or a passage taken in lieu of a school passage.
