THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGES ORDINANCE 1974

(No. 10 of 1974)

Enclosure No 2

This Ordinance affirms that English and Chinese are the official languages of Hong Kong for communication between the Government and members of the public and confers on these languages equal status and equality of use (section 3).

2. Sections 4 and 5 make exceptions as to the use of Chinese in legislation and in the courts.

3. Before His Excellency the Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, I advised that he could properly do so.
