Incidentally, it would have saved me quite a bit of time if I had known that the salamander is in fact known in China not by its official name but as "baby fish"; apparently it squalls incessantly like a new born baby. But then I suppose Cantonese and Mandarin babies cannot be expected to use the same tones.
