Dear Private Secretary
Mr Dalyell wrote to the Secretary of State on 29 July enclosing a letter from the Fauna Preservation Society about the importing of animals from China to Hong Kong.

Mr Dalyell had previously written and received a reply from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on this subject and his further correspondence should also be dealt with by that Department. am afraid, however, that the correspondence has been inadvertently mislaid within this Department and this has only just come to light. I am, therefore, forwarding the papers on to Lord Goronwy Roberts' office asking them if they could let Mr Dalyell have a reply as soon as possible.
I do apologise for the delay in dealing with this matter and hope that this will not have caused too much inconvenience.
