TRADE IN ENDANGERED SPECIES OF WILDLIFE
I
I am glad that you have now heard from Ted Nichols in reply to your letter of 24 July, to which you referred in your letter to me of 27 August. hope that you now have sufficient ammunition to enable you to answer Mrs. Turmer.
2.
I am also mightily relieved to learn that we had already mended our ways on the question of the import of the two tons of Giant Salamanders before your letter arrived and before Nichols returned from leave. Accordingly, we are now withholding permission to import and will continue to do so at least until we hear from Fursland in reply to my letter of 15 August. As Nichols implies in his letter of 6 September, I hope that by then we will be able to judge whether the evidence clearly indicates a wrong placement of this species.
