I refer to your letter dated the 3rd July in respect of the import of wildlife from China into Hong Kong and about conditions in Hong Kong for animals generally.

Earlier this year I wrote to the Hon. Charges D'Affaires of the People's Republic of China in London and I am attaching two copies of my letter. This has not been acknowledged by the Charges D'Affaires and I assume it is a matter that would automatically be passed to Peking.

Recently I met Dr. Bramble, Director of Mammals, London Zoo, who has just returned from China and, I gathered from my conversation with him that reference was made to our interest in the Hong Kong traffic.

In view of the circumstances, could I ask that you forward one of the copies of my letter dated the 5th June to the U.K. Ambassador in Peking for information file against any possible further developments in this matter.

Sir John Ward, Chairman of the U.K. Directors of ISPA is most anxious to pursue this question further and, I feel he may be seeking a meeting with you in the near future.
