IMPORTATION OF WILD LIFE FROM CHINA INTO HONG KONG
1.
Please see the attached letter from Peking enclosing a record of the Ambassador's meeting with Wang Tung on
5 March.
2. It would seem from this letter that the Embassy are
not expecting an early reply from the Chinese and that in any case it is unlikely that the Chinese, when they
do reply, will come back with much detailed information.
3. As you know we have already received sufficient
information from Hong Kong to cover the Hong Kong aspect
of this subject but we delayed sending substantive replies to M P's until we had heard from the Chinese. I
think in view of what Mr Orr says in his letter we
should submit now, using the information in paragraph 3
of his letter to show that we have broached the matter
with the Chinese and have endeavoured to enlist their
support.
4. If you agree that we should go ahead and submit I will complete and put up the submission Miss Kelly
drafted before she went on leave.
