LETTER FROM MR ANTHONY GRANT
39
1. Before the dissolution of Parliament Mr Anthony Grant, in
his capacity as a Member of Parliament, wrote to the Minister
of State at the Ministry of Agriculture enclosing a letter from
one of his constituents, Mrs O M Hume, about the slaughter of
cattle in Hong Kong. His letter has been passed to Mr Blaker
for reply.
2. The question raised by Mrs Hume is rather different from the
cruelty to animals question which we are dealing with in
connection with the conservation of wild life. We are therefore
seeking the advice of the Governor on a reply to Mrs Hume's
letter. We shall submit a full draft reply when we hear from
Hong Kong.
3. In the meantime Mr Guest may wish to send an interim reply
to Mr Grant. I attach a draft.
