EEC GSP DISCRIMINATION AGAINST HONG KONG
<
1. You may wish to see the attached round up of reactions from Hong Kong to the Secretary of State's statement on June. 2. The statement on Hong Kong has evidently gone down very well. If anything the reception has perhaps been too rapturous since expectations will have been raised. However both the Director of Commerce and Industry and the Chinese Manufacturers Association stress the problems of the negotiation. This realism is itself a welcome new development. All in all, I think the reaction has been as good as we could have hoped.
