GS P EXCLUSIONS
Le were most impressed by the thoroughness of the briefing you gave us on Japanese Gor, which proved very helpful for the talks which reter reston and I had in Tokyo. We wonder whether your
epartment would be willing to provide our negotiators in Drussels (John Ingram and his colleagues) with similar detailed briefing on the trade effects and on the consequences for the Hong Kong economy of the exclusion of footwear and textiles of Hong Kong
This would be v luable origin from the Luropean Community's G.P. ammunition for us when the detailed arguments start up again in the autumn.
1 realise that this request may not be apropriately addressed to you; and if it is not I should be grateful if you would pass it on to the right quarter. We would be glad to have the briefing if you feel able to provide it, by the beginning of eptember. I am sending copies of this letter to Andrew Stuart in HKICD, FCO and to John Towlson in the Trade Commission.
