In view of the involvement of the
footwear industry, in addition to the textile
industry, the committee agreed to invite
representatives of the Hong Kong & Kowloon Footwear
Manufacturers' Association and the Rubber Manufacturers'
Association to serve on the committee.
It was also agreed that the committee
should meet regularly to review the progress being
made in eliminating the discriminatory treatment
of Hong Kong's textile and footwear industries.
The committee is looking forward to
receiving a report from the Director of Commerce
and Industry, Mr. David Jordan, who is at present
in London discussing the inclusion of our two
industries in the GPS.
The Action Committee comprises the
heads of the T.D.C., Federation of Hong Kong
Industries, Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce,
Chinese Manufacturers' Association, Hongkong
Cotton Spinners Association, Hong Kong Cotton
Weavers Association, Federation of Hongkong
Garment Manufacturers and Hongkong Garment
Manufacturers Association, besides the two footwear
associations.
