Comments/Suggestions

Favour a 20% coin as:-

(i) 20% is an even number and simplifies

calculations;

(ii) No 5 rests in fare structure; (iii) A 25 coin would necessitate the giving

of a 5 coin in change; the latter is

getting less and less popular.

Existing 10 and 50 cent coins should

be retained.

Post Office

"Star" Ferry Co., Ltd.

(i) Satisfied with present denominations but

$2 coins may prove useful.

(ii) Objections to $5 coin because of likely

difficulties in maintaining adequate cash

floats and in moving coins from banks to

post offices.

(iii) Retain 5 cent coin but need for this will

diminish; therefore no need for a 25

cent coin.

(iv) 20 cent coin:

no great advantage in

giving change; in the event of a 20 cent

basic inland postal rate, present 10 cent

vending machines could be utilized,

(v) In determining sizes of new coins,

consideration should be given to those

coins currently in use in S.E. Asia.

(i) A 25 cent coin would be an obvious advantage

with the present fare structure but this

could disappear with a change in fares.

(ii) No problems with present coinage.

(iii) Little advantage, in view of minting and

storage costs, in issuing $2 and $5 coins. (iv) At present, because of frequent breakdowns,

limited use is made of coin acceptance

machines.
