Scheme I

Comments/Suggestions

The four kinds of coins currently in use. remain unchanged. The 20-oent coin is to be minted in bronze and in circular shape, being heavier and larger than the 10-cent coin. The $2.50 coin will be rectangular in shape with round edges, but the $5 coin

remains circular.

The advantages of this Scheme are:-

(a) Less expenses will be incurred since

the existing coins in circulation

remain unchanged.

(b) A different shape for the $2.50 coin

will facilitate easy and clear

distinction.

Scheme II

The 20-cent bronze coin will be the same as

in Scheme I. The existing $1 coin will be

re-minted in reduced size and lighter in weight. The $2.50 coin will take the size and weight of the existing 1 dollar coin. The $5 coin will take the same size and weight of the Australian 50 cents coin. Under this Scheme, all coins will be

circular in shape.

The advantages of this Scheme are:-

(a) All the coins are consistent in

shape, i.e., circular.

(b) The weight of the $1 and $5 coins

will be lighter than those under

Scheme I.

The disadvantages of this Scheme are:-

(a) Larger expenses will be incurred

in re-minting of the $1 coins.

/(b).
