Explanatory Memorandum
The purpose of this Bill is to amend the
Workmen's Compensation Ordinance so as to raise to
2,000 per month the upper limit of the wages which may
be earned by persons employed in non-manual labour
before they fall outside the scope of the Ordinance and
to increase the limits of the compensation payable in
the case of accidents which occur on or after the 1st
July 1974. The changes have become necessary in
consequence of the fall in the value of money.
Clause 3 will amend section 6 of the Ordinance
so as to increase the maximum compensation payable in
fatal cases from $45,000 to $60,000 and the minimum
from $7,200 to $9,600.
Clause 4 will amend section 7 of the
Ordinance so as to increase the maximum compensation
payable in cases of permanent total incapacity from
$60,000 to $80,000 and the minimum from $9,600 to
$12,800.
Clause 5 will amend section 8 of the Ordinance
so as to increase the maximum amount of compensation
payable to an injured person requiring constant
attention from $24,000 to $32,000.
Attorney General.
