Dear Rurras,
YOUR VISIT
1.
I attach a copy of the latest draft of your programme, and would be grateful for any comments.
2.
3.
We will have a car for you throughout the week.
On 16 December Teddy Kidd will be at Heathrow to meet you (as may I). Peter Male has asked whether the three of us would then like to join him for lunch at his club. But we have agreed to leave this open so that you can see whether you feel like it and whether it would be appropriate on the day.
4.
The details of your meeting in the Ministry of Defence on 18 December are not yet fixed, but they have hoisted in that, while this will not be a negotiation, both you and we regard it as important to take stock of the present position.
5.
On 19 December Mr Whitlam will be in London, and the Secretary of State's timetable is still uncertain. However, a meeting with Mr Callaghan will be arranged for the afternoon of the 19th or the morning of the 20th.
6. We understand from Teddy Kidd that you are hoping to leave for Glasgow during the afternoon of 20 December. However, because of the uncertainty about the timing of your meeting with the Secretary of State, 3.15 p.m. on the 20th was the earliest time we could safely arrange for a meeting with Lord Aldington (who will be abroad earlier in the week). We have therefore advised the Hong Kong Government Office to book you on an evening flight to Glasgow. I hope this will not be too inconvenient?
