1. I regret that we have not been able to meet your deadline for the Defence brief for Lord Goronwy Roberts. As you will see from the attached letter, I have asked for clearance from the Ministry of Defence for the attached brief by close of play on 2 January. I am conscious of the fact that Sir M Maclehose left with the Ministry of Defence on 18 December a piece of paper prepared by his officials. I have not seen a copy of this but, if it effects the Defence brief, I should be grateful if you would let me know.
