SPONSORED VISITS TO HONG KONG BY UK MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

The Hong Kong Commissioner has told us that the two
MPs who have been invited to visit Hong Kong during the Whitsun
recess are Mr P M Hordern and Mr K H Clarke, both Conservative
Members of Parliament. This follows the visit during the Easter
recess by two Labour Members, Mr J Johnson and Mr B T Ford.
Mr Johnson and Mr Ford are coming to see Lord Goronwy-
Roberts on 9 May to discuss their recent visit. I will be
providing briefing requested by Mr Hordern and Mr Clarke and will
be in touch with them after their return. I recommend that we
should leave until then the question whether they also should be
invited to come to see Lord Goronwy-Roberts.
