PARLIAMENTARY VISIT TO BRITISH FORCES IN HONG KONG
1. You sent us a copy, passed on from the Private Office, of Mr Murgatroyd's letter of 18 June about the briefing meeting for the Parliamentaripn's Guide
Erry's visit to Hong Kong and other places in September.
2. Both Mr Stuart and the Desk Officer concerned will be away on 4 July so I will do the briefing myself.
3. For some time now Hong Kong have been pressing for their Commissioner in London also to attend these briefing meetings. I put this orally to the Ministry of Defence last year and reminded them in paragraph 3 of my letter of 11 April to Miss Ashley (copy attached). There has been no response, but Hong Kong keep pressing us on the point. Perhaps it could be reiterated in the Private Secretary's reply.
