Conference of Asian Statisticians
I had hoped to see you during the stop in Bangkok, in order to say good-bye and to thank you personally for a very successful conference. Unfortunately, transit passengers were told to stay in the aeroplane so I didn't have the opportunity and am therefore writing now.

This was my first experience of a conference of this kind and I found it very enlightening. I was in particular very glad to have the opportunity to make the acquaintance of various people in the region which I am sure will be of much value in future. As I think I said during one of the sessions, there are always points to carp about in the running of any event but I was in gener 1 most i pressed by the way the conference was hundled and the papers presented to it.

There are a few points which I might perhaps mention. These do not all necessarily demand any particular response at this time, and to this extent I merely place them on the record. First, however, three matters which I would place importance on :-
(i) at the conference, and in particular in the
meetings of the Drafting Committee, I mentioned to you the use of the word "country" in rela- tion to Hong Kong and I promised to write to you further in the light of hat the draft report of the conference looked like as a whole and in the light also of further consultations in Hong Kong.
I an advised that application of the term "country" to dong Kong in incorrect because Hong Kong is not independent. Use of two word "territory" would be better, and in fact it covers everybody bouring in mind that it is
