NON REGIONAL MEMBERSHIP OF ECAFE: Mom Mine of 1870s.
1. Our presence as a non-regional member of ECAFE is, as far as this Department is concerned, princi- pally helpful to demonstrate a sympathetic interest in the affairs of the region. It is not the only forum in which we do this, and through our aid programmes there are more tangible and worthwhile methods. If the regional members do not find it desirable for us to continue, we would see no disadvantage in gracefully submitting. There are, however, more direct aid matters, and the particular problem of Hong Kong, to which other minuting refers. Je are not qualified to pass
judgment on these particular aspects of the problem.
