CHINESE TERMINOLOGY FOR HONG KONG
You may have heard already from the Hong Kong Delegation to the ECAFE Conference that at one point in the Drafting Committee the Chinese delegate took the initiative in opposing the insertion of Hong Kong in a list of "countries"; and suggested instead that the term should be "countries or territories"! I did not speak. It just thus looks as though the Chinese have after all, settled happily for "territory". I am not sure whether the Hong Kong delegation appreciated the significance of the incident.
