BRIEFING FOR THE XXIXth SESSION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMELY: DEPENDENT TERRITORIES
1. The time has once again come for briefing UKMIS
New York on our dependent territories (including, for UN purposes, the Associated States and Brunei) for Fourth Committee discussions.
2.
Briefing should be in 3 parts:
i) a completed questionnaire (copy attached). ii) a short background brief (in final form)
including, where appropriate:
a) a summary of any notable constitutional
progress towards independnece during the past year.
b) Where appropriate, refutations of allegations
in the reports produced by the Committee of 24 on the dependent territories. (Copies available from UND on request).
c) Any necessary defensive material on local
problems which may give rise to criticisms in the Fourth Committee.
iii) Where appropriate, a brief on UN strategy, indicating our aims and suggested tactics. will be prepared by UND in consultation with dependent territory department desk officers.
