The opposition's time table for independence would not be
in the British interest. The Chief Minister's personal time-
table would be acceptable, in the interests of the political
and economic stability of Seychelles and therefore of 3, Br

Immediate independence would shake confidence in the topeitora
stability, jeopardise investiment, and risk escalating the
present hostility between the parties and their supporters into,
open feuding, with a consequent risk of a breakdown of security.
Too great a delay might have the same effect. The Chief
Minister's time table is probably about right.
