COMMISSIONER FOR NARCOTICS, HONG KONG
Since I wrote to you on 6 November, I have had a
telegram from the Secretary for the Civil Service in Hong Kong saying that, if you are interested in the Commissioner for Narcotics job, they would be glad to see you there fairly soon. They know that you travel from time to time to the Middle East and points east and have offered to pay your diversionary expenses. They suggested that this should be from Bangkok, as I assume they think that you go that far. But I imagine they would stretch a point if you said that you could get no further than Afghanistan under your own steam.
Perhaps you would let me know what answer to send to
Hong Kong?
