This has been explained to the Committee in detail. More men might produce greater results, but this is a matter of available resources and priorities.
17. Not applicable in a narcotics centext.
I.C.P.0./Interpol
18. Yes. There are no plans for altering the N.C.B. at
present. Interpol's effectiveness in combatting the illicit drug traffic in this region is very limited.
Regional cooperation

22.
There is bilateral cooperation as the occasion demands. The Commissioner for Narcotics, Police officers and Preventive Service Officers make liaison visits to their opposite numbers in other countries in the region from time to time. There is close cooperation with the U.S. D.E.A. A Hong Kong Liaison Officer (Mr. J.P. Law) is about to be posted to the British Embassy at Bangkok for anti-narcotics purposes. Diplomatic representations are also made on occasions when appropriate.
More effective cooperation and mutual assistance at international level and the form it might take will be discussed in detail with the Committee. Duplication and waste of effort and resources through having a multiplicity of organizations for this purpose leading from individual, uncoordinated initiatives should be avoided.
Financial and technical assistance
23. Nil, but this is not really applicable to Hong Kong.
