GOVERNMENT has stepped up its anti-crime campaign with a series of successful drug raids by both police and the Preventive Service.
Forty people were arrested by Preventive Service officers when they made a series of drug raids throughout Hongkong yesterday.
During the raids they uncovered eight opium divans, one heroin distribution centre and and opium manufacturing
centre.
A total of 10 pounds of raw opium. five ounces and 207 pots of prepared opium, one pound of opium dross, 121⁄2 lbs. of heroin. eight gallons of opium solution and 12 opium pipes were seized in the raids.
The retail value of the dangerous drugs seized is about $59,000.
The raids were in areas of Hongkong. Fanling, Kamtin and Shatin.
Meanwhile, police made two separate raids in Shamshiupo yesterday.
In the first. 10 men were arrested when police swooped on an un numbered hut in Kwong Cheong Street ncar Cheungshawan Rpad.
Three opium připes. 54 pots of prepared opium and quantity of smoking paraphernalia was seized,
In the second raid, police went to a fat in Kilung Street where they arrested 20 men five opium pipes and 77 pots of prepared opium was seized in the rand
One of the men arrested has been charged with keeping an oprim divan, possession of opium and possession of opium pipes.
