PROPOSED AD HOC COMMITTEE FOR THE FAR EAST
J
UNITED KINGDOM REPRESENTATION
In reply to your letter of 13 March I am now able to tell you that the Home Office has agreed that I should be nominated as the United Kingdom representative to the United Nations ad hoc Committee for the Far East when that Committee has been approved by ECOSOC and when our nomination is formally requested.
Mervyn Manby, a member of the United Nations Division of Narcotics and the likely secretary of the ad hoc Committee, asked at the first meeting of the ad hoc Committee in Geneva that he should be informed when we had decided who we are going to nominate, even in anticipation of the formal invitation to us. If you have no objection, I would propose writing to him informally to say that I shall be our representative if and when ECOSOC approves the establishment of the Committee.
