HONG KONG'S FIRST ARTS FESTIVAL

I

I was delighted to read your despatch of 19 April and to know that your Arts Festival had been such a success. do heartily congratulate you. The Festival was a worthy complement to your other social programmes, which as you know we hold in high regard. The idea may, as you say, have been artistic madness; but it was certainly magnificent madness and a great success. The degree of local Chinese particimtm in the audience was particularly encouraging. Further localisation of the programmes will, as you say, encourage this, as will modified arrangements to make the tickets more easily available to Hong Kong people.

I have also written to Ian Hunter to congratulate him.
