7th August, 1973.
His Excellency The Ambassador,
Embassy of the People's Republic of China, 31 Portland Place,
LONDON W.1.
I am writing to ask if it would be possible for my wife and I to be invited to visit the People's Republic of China, around the 10th October of this year for a few days.
I was instrumental in starting the negotiations for the visit of the London Philharmonic Orchestra to your country earlier this year, and I am anxious to arrange visits by Chinese cultural groups to this country.
Besides being Chaimaan and Managing Director of this firm, which is the oldest established in this country, I also organise arts festivals in Brighton, in the City of London, and in Hong Kong.
I am sure that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London would be prepared to confirm to you that I have furthered, in the past, cultural relations between this country and many countries of the world, and I am very anxious to have the opportunity of meeting individuals and groups interested in cultural affairs in your major cities.
