Mr. Holt wrote on 20 August to say that we were consulting the Governor of Hong Kong about Mrs. Elsie Elliott's letter to Mr. Wilson, alleging corruption in the Hong Kong Resettlement Department.
The Governor has now replied, mentioning that Mrs. Elliott has previously made a number of allegations against staff of the Resettlement Department. These allegations ranged from malpractice in the allocation of premises or shop spaces, to irregularities in the promotion of allegedly unsuitable officers. All Mrs. Elliott's allegations have been investigated at the time, both by the Resettlement Department and by the Anti-Corruption Office, but without result.
The information in Mrs. Elliott's letter to Mr. Wilson dated 29 June names no names and is apparently insufficiently detailed to provide the basis for a further investigation. If Mrs. Elliott could provide fuller details to the Hong Kong Government they will be carefully investigated.
I return Mrs. Elliott's letter herewith.
