Mr. Godber

The Secretary of State has seen your submission of

2 August.

2.

3.

He has commented:-

"I find it difficult to understand the attitude of

the police. Mr. Godber is presumably a British Citizen who is thought to have embezzled British taxpayers money. I think they should watch him.

ADH".

I talked to Mr. Carr's Private Secretary last week and understood that Mr. Carr shared the attitude taken by Mr. Carlisle that this matter was no business of the British police and that anyway they were short staffed. Could you advise on whether it is worth going back to the Home Office and if so draft a letter to Mr. Carr's Private Secretary.
