LETTER FROM MR HAROLD WILSON'S OFFICE
1.
Mr Albert Murray in Harold Wilson's office wrote to the
Private Secretary on 10 August forwarding a letter which
Mr Wilson has received from Mrs Elsie Elliott in Hong Kong.
Mrs Elliott's letter contained allegations about corruption
in the Resettlement Department. We consulted Hong Kong and
an interim reply was sent to Mr Murray.
2. We have now received a telegram from Hong Kong suggesting
the line we might take in the reply to Mr Wilson's office. I
attach a draft reply based on this advice. I have, however,
altered the wording slightly, as the text suggested by Hong
Kong is a bit complacent in the context of the Godber case.
