ORDERS AND REGULATIONS REQUIRING AFFIRMATIVE RESOLUTIONS
1
The Chief Whip's Office have asked what Orders and Regulations requiring affirmative resolutions will need to be made before the Summer adjournment. Will you please let me know therefore whether the making of any such Orders or Regulations is contemplated by your Department?
2
The Office need to be given as much notice as possible in all cases, particularly if full use is to be made of Standing Committees for debates on Subordinate Legislation.
3 It would be helpful if you could indicate whether or not each Order is likely to be controversial, or to inspire prolonged debate, and the date by which you would need the Order to be approved by the House.
4 As the Office have asked for a reply by 31 May, may I please have your reply by 23 May. If a reply is not received by that date, it will be assumed that you have no Orders or Regulations to report.
5
Departments should clear their replies to this notice with their respective departmental Legal Advisers.
