"The majority of Hong Kong people demand heavy penalties for criminals. Unless the British Government has ignored local public opinion, we can see no reason why they should stop Hong Kong from carry out the death sentences," said Hong Kong Daily News (4.6.73).

To grant a reprieve to Tsoi Kwok-cheung is just like pouring cold water on the heat of the Fight Violent Crime Campaign in Hong Kong," said Fai Po (4.6.73).

"We must point out that Hong Kong has to resume use of the death penalty at the present stage. If murderers do not have to be hanged, criminals will do anything they like and the people of Hong Kong will have no sense of security. We hope that the British Government will respect the opinion of Hong Kong people from now on," said Sing Tao Man Po (4.6.73).

"The granting of a reprieve to Tsoi Kwok-cheong has shocked many people in Hong Kong. If the death sentence is never carried out, whether it exists or not has no meaning at all. Under our present conditions we need the guarantee that criminals sentenced to death will be executed, especially when we are launching a Fight Violent Crime Campaign," said Sing Tao Jih Po (5.6.73).

Hong Kong Daily News, Sing Tao Jih Po and Fai Po agreed with the view of Mr. Justice Blair-kerr that the British Government has put the Governor of Hong Kong in a very embarrassing situation by granting Tsoi Kwok-cheang a reprieve and that this was intolerable.

"His views represent those of the general public of Hong Kong. He has blown the horn for the "Fight Violent Crime Campaign,"""said Fai Fo, "We hope those hypocrites will keep their mouths shut from now on."

"Mr. Justice Blair-kerr's words are a summary of the views of Hong Kong people," said Sing Tao Jih Po.

In response to the views of three visiting British MPs on death sentence, Tin Tin Yat Po, Sing Tao Jih Po and Sing Tao Man Po maintained that Hong Kong's social conditions are different from those of Britain and that it is not necessary for Hong Kong to follow closely every step Britain takes.

To ensure that Britain knows the opinion of Hong Kong people, Sing Tao Jih Po said that the signature drive for a million people to support the death penalty in Hong Kong should be continued.
