last 10-15 years and likely attitudes of the

Bahamas

In the period 1958-1968 there were twelve executions in

the Bahamas. Subsequently there have been two more in

1969 and 1971. Ministers would not be receptive to

any suggestion of abolition before independence (July

1973).

In the last fifteen years, the death sentence has been

imposed fourteen times and carried out six times. It

considered that a majority of the legislature would

oppose abolition of the death penalty.
