Measures are being taken in Hong Kong

to deal with these problems of adjustment and

the position of new magistrates should there-

fore become easier. The Chief Justice has said

that he would prefer to continue recruiting

older men, as the expense of living in/Hong

Kong for young married couples with children

presents problems of housing, schooling and

transportation.

The total establishment of magistrates in

Hong Kong is 46. There are two vacancies at

the moment. You may be interested in the

the remaining 44 magistrates come:

As you will see, there are at present only 6

local magistrates. It is the policy of the

Hong Kong Government that, all things being

equal, offers of appointment should be made

to local candidates. The Chief Justice is

particularly anxious to recruit local Cantonese
