2.

If we do go ahead, I would suggest that the first meeting might be early in December, before the final (?) Geneva session on textiles (3-7 December). I may attend that myself and in that case I would come to London too. We could exchange lists of subjects we would like to raise a week or two beforehand.

I am sorry I didn't write this letter earlier, particularly as, if Roy has already raised this proposal with you, you may rightly feel we should have consulted the F.C.O. first. We were just trying to find out what the D.T.I. attitude was likely to be and a bit surprised when Roy said he would take it up but we didn't want to dis- courage him.

Unfortunately I went off to Tokyo for the GATT meeting immediately after the Denman/Goldsmith visit and since I came back have been acting as Financial Secretary. Now Philip is back in that chair and I in mine.

Yours sincerely,

Sand
