In the light of the proposed agenda, I have discussed
this question at desk level in the DTI (CRE2) and I recommend
that the meetings should be chaired by the DTI. Since the
subjects proposed fall basically into two parts, textiles
and problems connected with the EEC, it may be appropriate
for the talks to be held with the two Under-Secretaries
concerned (Mr Ridley for textiles and Mr Lam on EEC matters).
If you agree I will send Miss Welch a letter on the lines of
the attached draft.
