Sir Duncan Watson
BRITAIN''S IMAGE IN HONG KONG
1.
I have read with interest your minute of 7 November on
this subject.
2. I had a word with the Governor of Hong Kong about this
when I was there. His view is that when Mr Aston feels that
Britain's image in Hong Kong requires action, Mr Aston should
discuss the question with the Director of Information Services
of the Hong Kong Government. The Governor certainly would not
wish wires to be crossed. He is very conscious of the risks
mentioned in paragraph 4 of your minute.
