In the course of the proceedings of the Working Party the French delegation referred to the difficulties caused by the considerable increase in imports of textiles from Macao and asked that this problem which was in some respects similar to that of Hong Kong, also be examined in detail by the Community authorities.
It should also be pointed out that during the first half of this year the work carried out within GATT by the "Working Party on Trade in Textiles" in the identification of problems arising in international trade in textiles and on the search for various multilateral solutions, was stopped up and will in accordance with the terms of reference adopted by the GATT Council (1) lead to the preparation of a comprehensive report on the problems by the end of June.
The work carried out by GATT was prepared at international level at frequent meetings of the ad hoc "GATT textiles" Working Party during which all the problems arising in connection with the preparation of a commercial policy in the textile sector were extensively discussed.
