CONFIDENTIAL

meeting on 16 March and of the Hong Kong Government's

deliberations after Mr Jones' return. C & T Division of the

DTI may be in some need of stiffening but their Under Secretary

is helpful and their own Commercial Relations and Exports

Divisions take the same view as we do. I believe therefore

that we can still avoid damage to Hong Kong's defensible

interests. But if they do not make any move towards the Dutch

the pressure in Brussels is bound to increase.
