DEC TEXTIL OBLAS

1. I called on ics Lowne, DTI, this morning to discuss the form of a reply to UKREP Brussels telegram 2270 of 3 May, in which they cought advice on

70/ongong textile negotiations.

2. "iss Towne told me that since no dato had been for another meeting in Brussels on Hong Kong textilos, she thought the hoat had been taken out of the situation; and instead of replying to this telegren the TI were now proposing to submit a pane on 12 textile problems to the UO Committee. They wanted to inform the Committee of the textile situation and propose no wible courses of action (rather on the lines of the DTI paper on "Free Circulation of Textiles" which is to be discussed at the Textile

'orking Party eeting on 14 Kay). The DTI will circulate the paper in draft (with a copy to UKRIF Brussels) beforehand.
