1.
Mr P C Woo
(Senior Unofficial Member of Legislative Council, Hong Kong)
Mr Woo asked if Her Majesty's Government could do anything
to help Hong Kong settle her problems with the EEC. Mr Royle
said that this question had been discussed in detail with the
Governor in the last few days. He understood Hong Kong's
problems fully and even though there were wider considerations
of British interest involved, we would do all we could for Hong
Kong.
2. Hr Woo then referred to difficulties in Hong Kong over
Anglo/Hong Kong relations. He expressed his gratitude for all
that Mr Royle had done on Hong Kong's behalf while he had been
the Minister responsible in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office,
but implied that otherwise few people took much interest in Hong
Kong. Mr Royle asserted that Hong Kong, in fact, had many
friends in this country and pointed out the considerable number
of important visitors to Hong Kong in the last few years.
